Norway will provide Moldova with an additional 30 million euros in grant aid to support energy transition objectives, strengthen the education sector and promote good governance.
According to the Energy Ministry, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre announced this assistance at the Energy Roundtable, an event organized by the Norwegian Cooperation Agency (NORAD) in Oslo. According to Jonas Gahr Støre, Moldova has become the 7th largest beneficiary of the assistance provided by Norway, when the country has been significantly affected by the war in Ukraine. At the same time, Norway appreciated the Moldovan authorities' progress in implementing the European reform program, including in the energy sector. "Russia's aggressive war has had a serious impact on the security situation across Europe. But Moldova is an inspiring example of how democratization and progress can take place even in extremely difficult circumstances. The financial assistance of 30 million euros we are providing will be used to enhance cooperation in several sectors, including education and efforts for good governance in the country," Støre said. During the event, Victor Parlicov stressed Moldova's commitment to the process of strengthening energy sustainability and mentioned Moldova's ambitious plans in the field of energy efficiency, energy from renewable sources, digitalization and cybersecurity of the energy sector. "Moldova aims to accelerate the transition to a greener and more sustainable energy future, and the assistance of prestigious partners, such as Norway, is crucial in achieving this vision," Victor Parlicov emphasized. The roundtable, organized under the auspices of NORAD, brought together high-ranking Norwegian officials as well as representatives of the Norwegian energy ecosystem. It is worth mentioning that Norway has included Moldova in the Nansen support program for Ukraine, in order to help our country overcome the consequences of Russia's war on the territory of Ukraine. // 07.05.2024 - InfoMarket.
