The EBRD will provide a grant of 5.4 million euros for the implementation of the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project.
This is stipulated in a draft law on the ratification of a grant agreement between Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the financing of investment projects meant to develop infrastructure in the solid waste management sector, worth 5.4 million euros, in order to implement the "Solid Waste in Moldova" project, approved by the government at a meeting on Tuesday. The document was signed in Chisinau on February 22. It is planned that this grant will allow co-financing the construction of a regional landfill in Moldova in line with the EU standards, the infrastructure for sorting and composting waste in Donduseni, the construction of transshipment stations in Briceni and Edineti, as well as the purchase of equipment related to the integrated waste management system. Specifically, the 5.4 million euros grant is intended to improve solid waste management in the northern part of Moldova, which includes the districts of Briceni, Edineti, Ocnita and Donduseni, falling within Region N8 of the National Waste Management Program. This financing complements a 25 million euros sovereign loan from the EBRD to the Government of Moldova, which is part of a wider financing package complemented by a loan from the European Investment Bank and investment grants from other bilateral donors. The EBRD is the most important institutional investor in Moldova. To date, it has invested more than 2 billion euros in the country through 160 projects, with 52% of its portfolio in sustainable infrastructure. // 30.04.2024 - InfoMarket.
