Germany will continue supporting Moldova and will allocate a financial aid of 95 million euros in 2024.

Germany will continue supporting Moldova and will allocate a financial aid of 95 million euros in 2024.

This was announced by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock during the 4th meeting of the Moldova Support Platform held in Chisinau on Tuesday. She said that Moldova is on a "good path thanks to its resilience, determination and creativity". Annalena Baerbock said that she was shocked to hear last year that Moldova's inflation rate was 30 per cent, but now the inflation rate is less than 10 per cent, and the country, backed by the EU and other international partners, is successfully coping with the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis and is carrying out important reforms on the European integration path. The Foreign Minister said that there are "all grounds" to believe that Moldova's "European path will continue successfully," urging to use all the existing opportunities to promote the reforms and to strengthen the anti-corruption measures. She noted that the EU integration is possible on the basis of merit and the EU member states help Moldova in every possible way to continue making important achievements, to carry out reforms, to provide financial and technical assistance, including to strengthen energy security, to counter hybrid attacks and to fight disinformation, etc. Annalena Baerbock said that Germany will provide Moldova with 95 million euros in financial assistance in 2024. She also spoke in favor of creating a new form of strategic partnership in the future and transforming the Moldova Support Platform into a permanent platform, which will hold annual meetings with the participation of high-ranking Moldovan, EU and other international partners, in order to help Moldova better cope with the challenges and achieve the desired goal of EU accession. Annalena Baerbock recalled her first visit to Moldova a few weeks after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and said she was impressed by the solidarity shown by Moldova's residents, the mobilization to help Ukrainian refugees and the compassion. "You have provided security to Ukrainians, opened your homes, your hearts to them," she noted. The German diplomat stressed that Moldova is in the first line of defense of freedom and democracy, and Germany will remain by the country’s side and will continue to back it. // 17.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
