
The EBRD to provide Moldova with a €23 million loan for the rehabilitation of the railroad corridor from the village of Valcinet to the town of Cainari.
At a meeting on October 4, the government approved a draft law on ratification of the relevant loan agreement, which was signed in Chisinau on June 27. The agreement establishes the conditions of granting, utilization and repayment of the loan for the purchase of materials to carry out repair works of the railway corridor from north to south Moldova: Valcinet - Ocnita - Balti - Ungheni - Chisinau - Cainari. The EBRD loan will be provided in two tranches of €12 million and €11 million, and will be supported by a €20 million grant from the European Commission. The funds will be used to on-lend to the State Enterprise Railways of Moldova (CFM), which will repay the loan. The implementation of the project will increase the safety of the railway traffic, increase the speed of passenger and freight trains and contribute to the reduction of train travel time. // 04.10.2023 - InfoMarket.
