The EU will provide grants of 45.5 million euros for the implementation of 3 Moldovan-Romanian projects worth 90.9 million euros under the Connecting Europe Facility.
The Customs Service of Moldova has informed about it, noting that it is a financing approved by the European Commission for the development of cross-border infrastructure at the Ungheni-Ungheni, Leuseni-Albita and Giurgiulesti-Galati border-crossing points. All 3 projects promoted by Moldova together with Romania have been approved and the official announcement of the decision will be soon sent through diplomatic channels. The mentioned projects are aimed at development of road and customs infrastructure at the mentioned checkpoints. The implementation of these projects will contribute to the facilitation of cross-border traffic and contribute to the activities of the European Union's "Solidarity Lanes" initiative. It should be noted that out of 353 projects submitted for funding within the call for proposals published by the European Union in 2022, a total of 107 projects were approved, including 3 projects on development of border infrastructure of Moldova and Romania. "Thus, the implementation of the 3 Moldovan-Romanian projects approved for funding will improve infrastructure capacity, interoperability and efficiency of services at these border crossing points, ensuring continuous movement of goods and people, including humanitarian cargo, which will ensure access of our country to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), which is the basis of the European Union economy. Joint Moldovan-Romanian projects envisage construction of infrastructure of the Ungheni-Ungheni customs post; modernization of the Leuseni-Albita customs post (cargo sector) and modernization of the Giurgiulesti-Galati customs post. The projects' total value is 90 million 987 thousand 230 euros, of which 45 million 493 thousand 615 euros in grants from the European Union (value without VAT). Moldova was the first non-EU country that joined the Connecting Europe Facility program, followed by Ukraine. The named program is the most important tool of the EU to support trans-European infrastructure projects. //23.06.2023 - InfoMarket.
