The EBRD will provide a loan of 23 million euros, and the EU - a grant of 20 million euros for the repair of 2 key sections of railways in Moldova.

This was announced by the EU Delegation to Moldova, noting that the EBRD and the EU support a project to repair the railway in Moldova, and a total financing package of 71 million euros, taking into account the contribution of the Moldovan side and designed for the repair of 2 sections of railway tracks, will help simplify transportation from Ukraine to the European Union through Moldova. As noted, in particular, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Commission approved a financial package, according to which the EU will allocate an investment grant of 20 million euros for a project to repair 2 key sections of railways in Moldova. The EBRD will provide the Government of Moldova with 23 million euros. In turn, Moldovan Railways will contribute the remaining 28 million euros out of the required amount of 71 million euros for the project. Rehabilitation of the sections that belong to the Moldovan North-South Railway Corridor will stimulate the economic development of the country and will facilitate the transportation of goods from Ukraine to the European Union through Moldova. In 2022, Moldova and Ukraine received the status of a candidate for EU accession. The project was launched during the annual meeting of EBRD governors, held on May 16 in Samarkand. The corresponding announcement at the forum was made by EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso and Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis.// 16.05.2023 — InfoMarket.
