The EBRD will provide Moldova with an additional loan of about 24 million euros for the reconstruction of the country's railway infrastructure, in particular, the section of the Bendery-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway.

The EBRD will provide Moldova with an additional loan of about 24 million euros for the reconstruction of the country's railway infrastructure, in particular, the section of the Bendery-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spinu, announced this, noting that the plan for the restoration of this section of the railway is acquiring more and more real outlines and contours, since the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, signed a decree on the start of negotiations and approval of the signing of Amendment N2 to the Agreement on a loan between Moldova and the EBRD for the implementation of the Project for the purchase of locomotives and restructuring of the railway infrastructure. “And very soon, in October, we are expecting EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus, Matteo Patrone, to visit Moldova in order to sign this document worth about 24 million euros, which will be allocated in addition to the 27.5 million euros intended for the reconstruction of the railway infrastructure of our country,” stressed Andrei Spinu. As InfoMarket reported earlier, the infrastructure on the 233 km long section of the Bendery-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway is planned to be restored using loans provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. It was said that the total cost of the project is estimated at 55 million euros. The project includes the renovation and modernization of railway lines, command and signal management, telecommunications, level crossings and power supply equipment. It is planned that the implementation of the mentioned project will increase the speed of trains up to 100 km / h and, accordingly, increase the freight traffic. Earlier it was reported that 7 companies from Romania, Ukraine, Russia and Kazakhstan showed interest in participating in the modernization of the Bendery-Causeni-Basarabeasca-Etulia-Giurgiulesti railway section. // 28.09.2021 - InfoMarket
