According to the NBS, in 2022, gross premiums accrued in insurance companies amounted to 2 billion 471.5 million lei, which is 28.3% more than in 2021. Over the past year, the share of general insurance increased from 94.8% to 95.7%, and the share of life insurance decreased from 5.2% to 4.3%. In particular, general insurance premiums in 2022 amounted to 2 billion 364.3 million lei, which is 29.5% more than in 2021, and the amount of life insurance premiums increased by 6.1% - up to 107.2 million lei. At the same time, approximately 46.6% of the total premiums for general insurance fell in 2022 on motor third party liability insurance - 1 billion 151.1 million lei (+ 32.8%, compared to 2021) and 19.2 % - for land transport insurance (CASCO) - 473.3 million lei (+13.3% compared to 2021). Herewith, the total amount of insurance indemnities and compensations paid in 2022 amounted to 958.8 million lei (+46.4% by 2021). About 94.2% of the indemnities paid last year fell on general insurance - 902.9 million lei, which is 46.2% more than a year earlier. Health insurance payments accounted for 5.8% of the total - 56 million lei (+49.3%). Most claims in 2022 were paid for motor third party liability insurance - 42.3% of the total indemnities, and CASCO - 27.5% of the total.
