The meeting of the Moldovan-Kazakh intergovernmental commission after a long break is planned to be held early next year
This was discussed during a round table in Chisinau dedicated to reforms in Kazakhstan and the development of Kazakh-Moldovan relations. Kazakh Ambassador to Moldova Almat Aidarbekov welcomed the decision of the Moldovan authorities to open an embassy in Astana in January 2025: it will intensify Moldovan-Kazakh trade and economic relations, and strengthen social and cultural ties between the two countries. Eduard Melnic has been appointed Ambassador of Moldova to Kazakhstan and will fly to Astana on January 10, 2025. The participants of the round table noted the work of Rompetrol, a part of the Kazakh KazMunayGaz group, in Moldova, the Kamkor Management company from Kazakhstan, which is participating in the rehabilitation of the Moldovan railway, as well as the project under development for the construction of a glass factory in the Balti FEZ, with an investment volume of 160 million euros at the first stage. Its construction is planned to begin next year, the production capacity will be 600 tons of products per day. On the other hand, Moldovan investments in Kazakhstan are represented by JLC Kazahstan, whose plants in the Almaty region are among the largest in Kazakhstan in the milk processing industry. Speaking about the prospects for cooperation, the round table participants noted that 30 years ago, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev paid special attention to the progress of Moldova in terms of digitalization of issuing documents to citizens (passports, identity cards) and that experience turned out to be useful for Kazakhstan. But currently, Kazakhstan is far ahead of Moldova in the development and application of IT. Kazakhstan has also achieved great success in attracting investments from all over the world, the volume of which amounts to $23-25 billion per year; over the past 10 years, the country has attracted foreign direct investment in the amount of over $250 billion. It was noted that civil servants from Moldova can get acquainted with and adopt the experience of Kazakhstan, both in the field of attracting investments and public administration, including digital. For its part, Moldova is actively developing seed production for climatic zones, including Central Asia, and is ready to ensure the supply of fruits and juices to Kazakhstan, despite the current difficulties with logistics. It was emphasized that there are about 70 joint ventures operating in Kazakhstan, but the presence of Moldovan companies in the Central Asian market could be more active, since the 5 countries of the region (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan) are 80 million people and have a combined GDP of $450 billion, and Kazakhstan could become a gateway to the Central Asian market for Moldovan companies.// 28.11.2025 – InfoMarket.
