Moldova will improve conditions for online business activity
This is stipulated by the draft law on ensuring fairness and transparency for businesses using the services of online brokers operating in Moldova, approved by the government. According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, this new regulation was necessary because platforms have a dominant position, often dictating rules, which can affect commercial users when selling goods. For example, a platform can suspend merchants' accounts or block their goods without a clear explanation or notification. There will also be clear rules on access to seller and consumer data, which will ensure that platforms are transparent about how they handle this data. This bill transposes the EU Regulation into Moldovan legislation and will bring a number of advantages to companies in our country that sell their services or goods on platforms such as Google Marketplace, Apple Appstore, Booking, Airbnb, Amazon, Ebay, Aliexpress and others. Thus, the draft law approved by the Cabinet aims to correct this practice by establishing clearer rules and obliging platforms to provide explanations and time for adjustments and changes. The law will oblige platform providers to be more transparent in how they display products on the platform and avoid favoritism for their own products over other sellers. It will also require at least 15 days' advance notice of changes to terms and conditions, as well as a justification for blocking merchant accounts. The law also introduces a number of clear rules on access to seller and consumer information, providing transparency on how platforms handle this data. // 27.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
