
Petru Rotaru has been appointed Moldova's new Finance Minister.
The corresponding decree was signed by President Maia Sandu on September 27. According to her press service, Petru Rotaru will take the constitutional oath on Thursday at 15-00 in the presidential administration. The day before, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said he had sent a proposal to President Maia Sandu to appoint Petru Rotaru to the post of Finance Minister. "Petru Rotaru knows well the system of public finances and has demonstrated a good result in his activity as head of the State Tax Service," Dorin Recean wrote on his social network page. He also expressed gratitude to the former Finance Minister Veronica Sireteanu, who is taking a maternity leave, for her efforts to ensure and manage proper financing of state policies. "Together, we will continue working to ensure financial stability and promote Moldova’s economic development," Dorin Recean emphasized. Petru Rotaru, approved as Moldova's new Finance Minister, has been the director of the State Tax Service since March 30, 2023, and before that - from July 29, 2016 to March 28, 2023 - he was a member of Moldova's Court of Accounts. Previously, in 2015-2016, Petru Rotaru was the mayor of Tipala commune, Ialoveni district, and in 2011-2015, he was a District Councilor, Chairman of the Commission for Economy, Budget and Finance of Ialoveni District Council. In 2010-2012, he was the head of the State Tax Inspectorate in Ialoveni. Before that Petru Rotaru worked in different structures and companies. Petru Rotaru was born on July 8, 1984.
