Moldovan President Maia Sandu nominated Secretary of the Supreme Security Council Dorin Recean as a candidate for prime minister.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu nominated Secretary of the Supreme Security Council Dorin Recean as a candidate for prime minister.

He was instructed to form a new Cabinet, develop and submit to the Parliament within 15 days a program of activities and the nominal composition of the government. Speaking at the briefing, Maia Sandu noted that the government headed by Natalia Gavrilita had to face an unprecedented overlap of crises in the history of the country. “I would like to thank the Prime Minister and the entire team for the huge sacrifices and efforts made during this time,” the head of state stressed. According to her, further firm steps are needed to strengthen the economy and security of the country. “A brutal war continues in Ukraine. Threats to Moldova and destabilization attempts remain high. We are responsible for protecting people, for maintaining peace and order in the country. In order to fulfill these tasks in a period of prolonged crises, in order to move forward towards our main goal of strengthening democracy and European integration, strengthening the rule of law, raising the standard of living in Moldova, we decided that it is necessary to accelerate and strengthen our efforts by appointing a new government. This is a difficult time for everyone, and our task is not just to survive, we must develop, move forward. The economy and security of the country needs a new life,” the President said. Maia Sandu recalled that Moldova is currently experiencing a major energy crisis, and the state pays significant compensation to support citizens and the economy. “Despite the fact that the initiators of the energy war wanted us to fall, we are moving forward. In order to be able to help people even more, the new government must focus its efforts on economic revival and development. It is necessary to boost economic growth, attract as many high-quality investments as possible, so that we can not only cope with rising world prices, but also have more jobs, higher wages and improve the standard of living of citizens. The new government will have to continue and accelerate the purge of the judiciary. No matter how many barriers groups of thieves try to erect, we promised and are responsible to the people to administer justice in our country. The rotten system will continue to interfere, but the new government must increase the speed of cleansing the country of corruption and injustice. These are the expectations of the people, but also the priorities that I think the new government should follow,” the head of state said. Maia Sandu said that she had consultations with parliamentary factions. “Following the discussions, I signed a decree appointing Dorin Recean as a candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Moldova. During consultations with the faction of the Action and Solidarity Party, the PAS team declared its support for Dorin Recean,” said the President of the Republic of Moldova.// 10.02.2023 — InfoMarket.
