Representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol during a new round of negotiations will discuss possible actions in the event that Russia stops gas supplies to Moldova.

Representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol during a new round of negotiations will discuss possible actions in the event that Russia stops gas supplies to Moldova.

This was announced at a briefing on Friday evening by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova Oleg Serebrian, noting that the corresponding agreement was reached during the meeting of political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol held today in the process of negotiations on the Transnistrian settlement, which was attended by representatives of the participants in the negotiation format " 5+2". He noted that during the meeting he initiated, Chisinau suggested that Tiraspol discuss measures to overcome the energy crisis, including better coordinating measures for the rational consumption of gas and electricity. “Unfortunately, although the discussions were specific and held in a warm atmosphere, we failed to agree and come to a common denominator. We agreed that energy experts from Chisinau and Tiraspol will analyze in the coming days the technical and legal details that can solve, at least partially, this problem,” Oleg Serebrian stressed. According to him, also at the meeting, Chisinau offered Tiraspol to discuss and assess the risks that may arise if Russia cuts off gas supplies to Moldova. “Unfortunately, we need to consider all possible scenarios, including the most negative ones. We agreed that there will be a new round of negotiations, at which the parties will discuss this issue in more detail. In general, the meeting ended without tangible results, but there is hope that we can jointly achieve the goals of alleviating the situation with the energy crisis for residents from both banks of the Dniester,” said the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of Moldova. Answering journalists' questions, he noted that the confirmation of the volumes of deliveries by Gazprom for November does not yet mean that the gas will be supplied, since the country should already receive this gas under the contract, but its volumes have been reduced, and no one is insured against force majeure situations, from the fact that gas supplies will stop, and therefore Chisinau and Tiraspol need to discuss all possible scenarios for coordinated actions in such a situation. At the same time, Oleg Serebrian said that while the process of negotiations between the parties is underway, he cannot provide any details, and messages will be only following the results of the negotiations.// 28.10.2022 - InfoMarket
