These data were presented in a study conducted by the Investment Agency with the aim of improving the skills and competitiveness of Moldovan companies wishing to expand their exports to Italy, as well as to facilitate the adaptation of Moldovan products to the strict standards of the Italian market. The document reveals the requirements and trends of the Italian market. This market study was presented at a seminar within the ExportVision program, which supports Moldovan companies by sharing valuable information provided by experienced exporters. The program helps companies understand the needs and trends of European markets and maximize their chances of success. The study says that in 2023, Moldova ranked 87th in the overall list of Italy's largest import partners with $0.29 billion, while neighboring Romania ranked 14th with $10.35 billion. At the same time, in 2023, 8 out of the 20 largest goods imported by Italy are also products exported by Moldova. The TOP 20 goods exported by Moldova to Italy in 2023 amounted to $207.8 million (79.61% of total exports to this market). Herewith, 13 textile products accounted for $146.45 million (56.3% of total Moldovan exports to Italy in 2023). These include: men's coats or coats for boys - $23.64 million, sweaters, cardigans, vests - $22.62 million, women's coats or coats for girls - $21.75 million, suits, jackets, dresses, skirts, trousers for women or girls - $13.91 million, tracksuits, ski suits, swimsuits and other items - $12.15 million, men's suits or suits for boys - $10.88 million, T-shirts, tank tops - $6.41 million, blouses, shirts for women and girls - $3.53 million, women's suits or suits for girls - $3.43 million, etc. In 2023, 3 industrial products accounted for $34.49 million (13.3% of total Moldovan exports to Italy): solid waste from oil refining - $18.23 million, wires and cables - $9.16 million, goods for transportation or packaging of goods - $7.1 million. 2 agricultural products accounted for $16.74 million (6.4% of total Moldovan exports to Italy in 2023): corn - $10.5 million, wheat and meslin - $6.24 million. Experts point to great potential for growth in Moldova's exports to Italy of sunflower oil, rapeseed and barley, and other agricultural products. They note that the structure of Moldova's exports to Italy in 2023 was dominated by non-food products, especially in the clothing sector, such as men's and women's coats and other clothing items, which account for a significant portion of total exports (56.3%). In contrast, food products have a smaller share in total exports to Italy - 10.17%.
