
Imports to Moldova in 2023, compared to 2022, decreased by 5.9%, amounting to $8 billion 673.7 million.
As the InfoMarket agency was informed by the National Bureau of Statistics, traditionally, the majority of goods were imported into the country by road transport - 79.3% of the total volume. Sea transport accounted for 7.2% of total imports, railway - 3.9%, air - 2.1%, self-propelled imports - 0.7%, postal items - 0.1%, and fixed transport units (gas pipelines, electrical networks) accounted for – 6.8% of total imports. In particular, the volume of imports of products from EU countries to Moldova in January-December 2023, compared to the same period in 2022, decreased by 4.1% - to $4 billion 187.9 million, from the CIS countries - decreased by 26.3% - to $1 billion 609.6 million. Import of goods from other countries increased by 7.8% - up to $2 billion 876.04 million. The share of EU countries in the total volume of Moldovan imports increased from 47.35% to 48.28 %, the share of CIS countries decreased from 23.715 to 18.56%, and the share of other countries increased from 28.95% to 33.16%. The TOP countries that accounted for the largest volumes of Moldovan imports in 2023 included: Romania (15% of total imports), Ukraine (12.4%), China (11.7%), Turkey (8.5%), Germany (7.1%), Italy (5.4%), Russia and Poland (3.7% each), France (2.5%), India (2.4%), Hungary (2.1%), Czech Republic (1.9%), Bulgaria (1.7%), Greece (1.6%), USA and Spain (1.4% each), Japan (1.1%), Austria, Belarus , Slovakia, the Netherlands (1% each), Great Britain (0.9%). At the same time, in 2023, compared to 2022, imports increased from Ukraine (+26.1%), from Turkey (+12%), China (+7.4%), Germany (+6.9%), France (+22.1%), Italy (+7.3%), UAE (4.5 times), Czech Republic (+19.7%), Japan (+34.8%), Kazakhstan (+58.5%), Slovakia (+30.8%), Vietnam (+40.6%), Spain (+14.3%), Poland (+4.7%), Sweden (+35%), Azerbaijan (by 2 times), Ecuador (+41.6%), Turkmenistan (+49.1%), Algeria (4.7 times), Great Britain (+7.2%), Israel (15%), Egypt (+44.3%). Herewith, the import volumes decreased to Moldova from Russia (-71.9%), Romania (-21.1%), India (-17.3%), Greece (-18.6%), USA (8.6%), Belarus (-8.1%), Uzbekistan (-33.9%).
