Energocom and Moldtelecom may be exempt from paying dividends for 2021

The corresponding draft government decree was considered by the State Chancellery. The explanatory note to the project notes that, due to the situation on the energy market in Moldova, Energocom is on high alert, which imposes an obligation to continuously purchase electricity and / or natural gas needed by end users and the system operator, so the release from the payment of dividends will create favorable conditions for the purchase of energy resources. At the same time, regional instability may jeopardize the security of important telecom networks operated by Moldtelecom, and it is necessary to reduce the risks associated with attacks on network security systems, including the risks of cyber, physical and armed attacks. In the event of an accident that affects the central hub in Chisinau, Moldtelecom will not be able to continue providing communication and Internet services throughout the country. The fact is that Moldtelecom does not have duplicates of important communication nodes to ensure the continuity of services in emergency situations, so the company will have to build its network according to the 1 + 1 principle, i.e. have 2 identical communication nodes, but in different places. The cost of replicating critical electronic communications nodes could be around 10.5 million euros. If the Cabinet approves the project, the budget will not receive more than 100 million lei: Energocom’s net profit in 2021 amounted to 8.71 million lei, decreasing by 2.8 times compared to the previous year (24.47 million lei), and Moldtelecom's net profit amounted to 91.53 million lei, having increased by 6.4% compared to 2020 (86.02 million lei). // 11.07.2022 — InfoMarket
