The Competition Council of Moldova declared inadmissibility of its involvement in political games and putting any pressure on it.
In particular, the Competition Council noted with concern the attempt by the administration of the President of Moldova through the adviser to the head of state, Sergiu Tofilat, to put pressure on the council by filing a complaint with the Prosecutor General's Office. The Competition Council expressed bewilderment about this, since the appeal to the Prosecutor General's Office followed in conditions when, by a parliamentary decision of March 12, the Competition Council must submit to parliament a report on the investigation of cartel agreements by April 12. In addition, the presidential administration was aware of the actions of the Competition Council in this direction. “Our position was also stated at the meeting of the Supreme Security Council on February 26 this year. Given this situation, we conclude that attempts are being made to involve the Competition Council in political games. In this regard, we would like to remind about the inadmissibility of the Competition Council's involvement in political games, as well as the inadmissibility of putting any pressure on the body that controls the correct implementation of competition laws, ”the council said. It should be noted that presidential adviser Sergiu Tofilat sent a complaint to the Prosecutor General's Office, pointing out the inaction of the Competition Council in investigating cartel agreements on the oil products market, leading to an increase in fuel prices, and punishing the companies involved in the collusion. The presidential administration believes that it is necessary to start a criminal case on the fact of violation of the principles of free competition in the market, as well as on the fact of official negligence on the part of the Competition Council. The presidential adviser also intends to convey his appeal to parliament, along with an appeal to initiate an external assessment of the activities of the Competition Council. // 30.03.2021 - InfoMarket
