The European Commission is in the process of checking Moldova's application for compliance with the criteria for exporting dairy products to the EU.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, the Secretary of State of the department Iuliana Dragalin said this during the presentation of the Marketing Study of the Development Potential of Dairy Products in Moldova. She noted that the audit of the European Commission may be followed by an audit mission, similar to the one scheduled for April for animal products. Iuliana Dragalin noted that at the EU level, the process of amending the legislation in the field of dairy products is currently underway. The amendments will come into force in April this year. After the entry into force of this legislation and the inclusion of our country in the EU decision, Moldova will be able to export composite products such as baked goods and confectionery products that can be stored at room temperature. According to the presented marketing research, in 2019 Moldova exported dairy products worth $5.8 million. However, over the past 4 years, the export of these products has decreased by an average of 17% per year. Cheese and feta cheese were the main exported dairy products not only in 2019, but also for the last 5 years. At the same time, the import of dairy products to Moldova shows a steady upward trend. On average, over the past 5 years, imports have increased by 22% annually, reaching about $58 million in 2019. The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure draws attention to the fact that these $58 million represent the potential for import substitution or potential income that can be obtained by local producers if they the required amount of raw milk. // 26.03.2021 - InfoMarket.
