Moldova needs to elaborate a new Strategy for the development of the agri-food sector sooner - Alexandru Slusari
Former executive director of Forta Fermierilor (Farmers' Power) Association voiced this opinion, naming a number of basic elements of this strategy, which should be applied in a complex. According to him, in particular, state financial support in the form of subsidies and guaranteed loans should be provided only to micro, small and medium-sized farmers, while the expansion of transnational companies should be stopped. The agri-industrial sector should become one of the priorities of the EU accession negotiations, which is now completely absent. As Alexandru Slusari noted, the modernization of the sector is possible only with the attraction of more European funds, as it was in the countries of Eastern Europe. He believes that it is necessary to urgently develop and apply a set of measures to adapt national agriculture to climate change. The former executive director of Forta Fermierilor Association also emphasized the need for a Food Sovereignty Act, which will define the foods with a self-sufficiency level of at least 100% and the mechanisms to achieve the goal. “Stop importing flour, butter, dairy products, ketchups, mayonnaise and many other products! We are financing other countries' economies and losing tens of thousands of jobs in our own country. It's not too late to save real farmers and our villages. All you need is political will and competence!” stated Alexandru Slusari. // 15.10.2024 - InfoMarket.
