The Commission for Emergency Situations has approved the allocation of 100 million lei to farmers affected by the drought
Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced this at a government meeting on Wednesday. The money will be allocated from the Intervention Fund to partially cover the losses incurred by farmers due to drought and high temperatures this summer. Also, according to him, a tool for emergency situations will be prepared according to the Romanian model. Dorin Recean ordered that the assistance be provided to the farmers in a short time, noting that the government continues to look for efficient solutions to support the farmers. It is worth mentioning that earlier Forta Fermierilor (Farmers' Power) Association repeatedly criticized the government for not reacting properly to the crisis in the agricultural sector. The organization demanded to introduce state of emergency in agriculture, as well as to approve a set of measures and benefits to support farmers affected by this year's drought and crises of previous years. Earlier it was reported that in 2024, the drought affected more than 19.4 thousand hectares of crops of the first group, and the damage is estimated at almost 135 million lei. For comparison, in 2022, 27.6 thousand hectares were affected (the damage exceeds 358 million lei), while in 2023 - 16.3 thousand hectares (the damage is almost 185 million lei). // 04.09.2024 – InfoMarket
