A National Association of Vegetable Growers will be created in Moldova.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry announced this, noting that it supported the initiative of the National Federation of Agricultural Producers from Moldova (FARM) to create the first specialized association in the vegetable sector in the country - the National Association of Vegetable Growers of Moldova. It is planned that the Association will represent the interests of vegetable producers before local and central authorities, contribute to the improvement of the legislative framework and the development of an enabling environment for the transformation of the vegetable business, attract international programs and funding sources to facilitate access to modern technologies, share best practices, etc. To achieve this goal, FARM will hold 11 regional meetings between December 2023 and January 2024. These events will discuss: the current situation and development of the vegetable sector, current trends in vegetable trade, opportunities for cooperation between vegetable growers, etc. Through these events, vegetable growers will learn about the benefits of the Association, the procedure for establishing an association and the need for active participation of vegetable growers in this process. At the same time, this national mobilization campaign for vegetable growers aims to explain the importance of vegetable growers' self-organization to solve problems, participate in agricultural policy making and develop the sector. At the end of the events, the participants of the regional meetings will delegate their representatives to the National Action Group, whose task is to study the successful practices of the specialized association of producers, to develop the concept and constituent acts of the Association and to convene a meeting for the formation of the National Association of Vegetable Growers of Moldova. The events will be attended by experts in the fields of economics, agriculture, law and business development. They will propose concrete examples and solutions that can be applied in practice, following the experience of European countries and respecting the legislation and socio-economic situation in Moldova. The events will also be attended by representatives of the regional agricultural directorates, as the initiative to create the National Association of Vegetable Growers is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. As noted by FARM, the transformation of the vegetable sector in Moldova into a competitive and modern area requires investments, readily available technologies and the support of the authorities. To meet these conditions, it is necessary to adapt agricultural policies to the real needs of vegetable producers. "At present, Moldova does not have an organizational form designed to act in these interests. Therefore, FARM, in partnership with the USAID’s Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity in Moldova, has taken the initiative to create the first specialized association in this sector - the National Association of Vegetable Growers of Moldova," the Federation said. // 12.12.2023 - InfoMarket.
