Sunflower producers will be able to receive diesel fuel from external humanitarian aid.

At a meeting on Wednesday, the government included sunflower in the list of crops whose producers are entitled to receive diesel fuel from external humanitarian aid intended to support agricultural producers affected by drought in 2022. Currently, producers of rapeseed and sunflower are excluded from the category of beneficiaries of diesel fuel, while, out of 324 thousand hectares of agricultural land last year, about 165 thousand hectares of sunflower suffered from drought. The government's amendments to the Regulation on determining the amount of diesel fuel from external humanitarian aid intended to support agricultural producers affected by drought in 2022 will come into force after publication in the Monitorul Oficial. From now on, sunflower producers will also be able to apply for assistance in the form of diesel fuel. The Ministry of Agriculture notes that this change will stimulate the sowing of sunflowers by micro and small farmers, and this will also affect the formation of a list of socially significant products by obtaining raw materials for the production of sunflower oil and will alleviate the difficult financial situation of agricultural producers. If the already approved categorization coefficient is applied, additional funds in the form of diesel fuel will make it possible to begin processing and preparing about 112 thousand hectares of land for sowing. Recall that micro or small farmers or public institutions that own and use up to 1,500 hectares of arable land sown with crops for the 2022 harvest and affected by drought can apply for assistance in the form of diesel fuel. Assistance can be provided if the applicant has at his disposal a statement confirming that the drought caused damage to 50% or more of the crop yield. The amount of assistance per applicant is calculated by the Agency for Interventions and Payments in Agriculture, based on the total amount of diesel fuel available, depending on the eligible area per applicant. // 13.09.2023 — InfoMarket
