More than 80% of the wine produced in Moldova in 2022 was exported to 57 countries of the world.

At the same time, the price of a liter of exported wine increased slightly. The total amount of grapes processed in 2022 amounted to 280 thousand tons, of which 190 million liters of wine were obtained, which is 10% more than in 2021. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, such data were presented during the National Conference on summarizing the results work in the wine sector in 2022. The event was attended by government officials, development partners, representatives of the wine sector and the academic community. As noted, on the other hand, in 2022, the export of Moldovan wine decreased, both in physical and value terms. Thus, the volume of exports in physical terms decreased by 14%, and in value terms - by 9%. The factors that influenced the decline in exports in 2022 were: the war in Ukraine, the disruption of transport logistics, the decrease in supplies to the CIS markets, etc. State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry Sergiu Gherciu noted that the goals of the Moldovan wine sector for 2023 are: increased exports, sustainable business development and the registration of more vineyards in the Wine Register. According to him, 2022 has been a challenging year with numerous challenges for farmers. At the same time, the wine sector has made significant efforts to adapt and develop, first during the pandemic, and now in the context of the war in Ukraine. For this reason, the Ministry of Agriculture is taking steps to develop new agricultural strategies and policies to help the industry weather the storms and thrive. “In such an uncertain context, it is important to have pragmatic approaches based on innovation and sustainability. We must continue to respond to consumer needs and protect the environment to ensure long-term food security. In 2023, we are determined to improve the quality and variety of products, and to encourage cooperation between local and international producers. We are aware of the vulnerability of the sector to extreme climate change and the military situation in the neighboring country. Based on the lessons learned in 2022, we aim to develop protection and sustainability programs that will ensure sustainable wine production in the coming years,” said Sergiu Gherciu. The good news announced at the conference is that more and more winemakers are choosing to register with the Wine Register. Over the past 3 years, about 20,000 new economic agents have been registered, bringing their total number to 59,000. In this regard, grape growers have been warned about the need to register their vineyards in the Register of wineries. This is a prerequisite for the possibility of selling grapes grown in autumn. According to official data, 89,900 wine plantations and 343 wine enterprises are currently registered in the Wine Register. Acting Director of the National Bureau of Vine and Wine Elizaveta Breahna noted that 2022 was marked by a decrease in investment in the development of the industry. Thus, investments made in the region amounted to 198 million lei, having decreased by more than 50% compared to 2021. Of this amount, 46 million lei were allocated for planting vineyards, 20 million lei for uprooting old vineyards, 96 million lei for modernization of wineries, 36 million lei - for the development of markets. The subsidy fund covered about 35% of the investments.// 03.04.2023 — InfoMarket.
