Chisinau Airport has announced the launch of an open tender for the reconstruction and expansion of its passenger terminal building

This project involves the reconstruction of the airport's existing passenger terminal complex, adjacent grounds, access roads, and utilities. This project will increase the space available for passenger service areas, including waiting rooms, through the addition of new structures, the redesign of existing structures, and the modernization of the terminal's engineering and technological equipment, passenger service equipment, and other facilities. Specifically, the first phase of the project involves the expansion and modernization of existing areas, including the expansion and modernization of the departure security area (PAX-TRACK access, passenger and carry-on baggage security, radioactive substance screening, passport control, and customs control), the expansion and modernization of the arrival security area (passport control at various levels, boarding pass screening and issuance for transfer passengers), and the development, provision of amenities, and technical equipment for an additional public access area. The second stage provides for new construction (an extension), Block 1A (arrivals), renovation of the existing areas of the arrivals area. The third stage stipulates new construction (an extension), Block 1B (departures), expansion of the critical part of the restricted access security area ("sterile" zone). The fourth stage provides for new construction (an extension part Block 1C, an add-on part and internal spaces of Block 1). Expansion and modernization of the baggage handling area, office space and technical areas, etc. All interested parties can find detailed information about the conditions of participation in the tender at the link https://achizitii.md/ro/public/tender/21502840/. The modernization project will be fully financed from the airport's own funds, and the work is planned to be carried out in stages, without disrupting current operational activities. Applications will be accepted until December 9. It was previously reported that Chisinau Airport is investing over 700 million lei in the expansion of the passenger terminal. The project will expand the airport's passenger area, reduce congestion, improve passenger comfort, and transform Eugen Doga Chisinau Airport into a modern and efficient air hub that all citizens can be proud of. Construction is scheduled to begin immediately after the selection of a construction company through an open tender and be completed by the end of 2026. According to preliminary estimates, the tender process will last approximately two months. The terminal expansion project was developed by the state-owned Organization for territorial planning, urban development, construction, and housing at the airport's request; the project cost 6.5 million lei. The project includes the reorganization of check-in and baggage claim areas, the construction of new departure areas, and the implementation of modern technologies such as FAST TRACK (to expedite and predict passenger flow), ABC Gates (automated passport control), and the integration of intelligent systems with self-service elements during baggage handling. Waiting areas and a business lounge will also be expanded, along with additional amenities such as a covered terrace and showers for passengers. The passenger terminal expansion project aims to bring the airport into line with international best practices in civil aviation.//03.11.2025 - InfoMarket
