The Moldovan government has warned citizens about financial fraud on the internet, urging them to be extremely cautious and not to fall victim to fraudulent online investment schemes, such as the TUX platform or other similar platforms
As noted in the Cabinet's statement, promises of quick financial gains that seem too good to be true are usually scams, and it is important to protect yourself and your loved ones. The government pointed out that fraudulent online investment schemes are actively promoted on various messaging apps and social networks (including Tik Tok, Viber, and Telegram). Citizens are invited to join so-called “investment” groups via WhatsApp, Telegram, Viber, and other messengers, lured in, and then they lose money by participating in such financial schemes. In these groups, a fake “mentor,” “coach,” “teacher,” “consultant,” or “crypto expert” gives recommendations on how to make a lot of money quickly. A reward is offered for each new participant recruited—usually family members or friends fall into this trap. Group members are directed to fake “investment” platforms that look like the real thing. To make the scheme look convincing, small initial winnings are offered, which increases the trust of the participants. Later, additional fees begin to be charged, and the money invested is no longer returned. The Moldovan government has called on citizens to do everything they can to protect themselves and to be very cautious about invitations to online groups promising quick wins. They are also advised to check the authenticity and authorization of these platforms or financial organizations on the official website of the National Financial Market Commission (CNPF), not to install unknown applications, and not to provide remote access to phones or personal computers. Citizens are advised to immediately report any suspicious activity to the police. If they have fallen victim to such fraud, they are advised to immediately cease all contact with the alleged fraudsters, not to send them money in any form, and to report the incident to the police, family, and friends to prevent the spread of fraud.
