The Ministry of Energy's leadership discussed the situation in the Moldovan energy sector and potential risks with an IMF mission
The Ministry of Energy reported that its head, Dorin Junghietu, met with an International Monetary Fund mission led by Alina Iancu. The mission is in Chisinau from December 4 to 17 to hold discussions with the Moldovan authorities as part of consultations stipulated by Article IV of the IMF's Articles of Agreement. The main goal of the IMF experts is to analyze recent economic developments, assess macroeconomic prospects and risks, and discuss policy priorities with the authorities and other key stakeholders. The parties discussed in detail developments in the energy sector and potential risks in the context of the cold season and the war in Ukraine, both in terms of energy supply security and the reforms being carried out in the sector. The Minister of Energy spoke in detail about winter preparations, natural gas procurement and the creation of strategic gas reserves, the structure of electricity imports and consumption, and grid balancing measures.
