The Hungarian budget airline (low-cost airline) Wizz Air has suspended all flights from Chisinau since March 14.
Wizz Air has closely monitored the security situation in Moldova and has been in constant communication with various local and international authorities and agencies to ensure the highest level of operational security. "The safety of passengers and crew remains Wizz Air's number one priority, and as a result of recent developments in Moldova and the high, but not imminent, risk in the country's airspace, Wizz Air has taken the difficult but responsible decision to suspend all flights from Chisinau from March 14," according to a company press release. It is emphasized that after March 14, Wizz Air will offer additional flights from Iasi to support passengers from Chisinau. This implies a new route from Iasi to Berlin, as well as an increase in the frequency of flights to Barcelona, Milan (Bergamo), Bologna, Rome (Ciampino), Rome (Fiumicino), Dortmund, Larnaca, London Luton and Treviso from Iasi, which is the nearest destination on the Wizz Air network. Routes from Chisinau to Budapest and Prague will be suspended without a direct alternative to replace them. The remaining capacity, which is currently operating towards Chisinau, will be moved to other destinations in the Wizz Air network. Affected customers who have booked tickets directly through wizzair.com or the airline's mobile app will receive an email notification and will be able to book another ticket free of charge, receive 120% of the original fare paid in credit for future bookings, or receive a 100% refund of the ticket price. Wizz Air stated that it remains faithful to the Moldovan market and loyal to its customers. "Wizz Air will continue to constantly assess the situation in order to resume operations and reopen the base in Chisinau as soon as it can be done safely," the company said in a statement. //27.02.2023 - InfoMarket.
