Moldova and France have signed an intergovernmental agreement in the field of social protection
The document was signed on behalf of Moldova by Labor and Social Protection Minister Alexei Buzu in Paris in the presence of Presidents Maia Sandu and Emmanuel Macron. According to the Moldovan Labor and Social Protection Ministry, after signing the agreement, the two states will begin internal procedures for its ratification, which, in the case of France, includes a complex process of approval by the Council of State, the National Assembly and then the French Senate. “I am proud and grateful to my French colleagues for the opportunity to sign this agreement long awaited by many of our citizens. This is a big step towards strengthening relations with France and an opportunity for our citizens who have worked or are working in France to access more social benefits,” said Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu. According to him, the agreement provides for the assignment of retirement pensions, disability pensions due to ordinary illness, as well as survivor pensions based on the principle of proportionality. People who have worked in both countries, but are not entitled to a pension in either state, will be able to summarize the contribution periods to meet the conditions for pension assignment. Thus, citizens who have accumulated at least 15 years of work experience in both countries will have the right to a retirement pension in Moldova. Based on this agreement, Moldovan citizens will be able to request a pension from the competent institutions of France or Moldova, and the pension will be transferred monthly to the beneficiary on the territory of the state where he/she will reside at the moment. So far, Moldova has signed social protection agreements based on the principles of proportionality with 18 states, and the signing of the agreement with France represents a continuation of this process, offering additional protection to Moldovan citizens who work or have worked in France. // 11.03.2025 - InfoMarket.
