From January 1, 2025, war veterans of Moldova will receive a monthly state benefit equal to 10% of the average monthly wage in the economy

This is stipulated in the draft law on war veterans, passed by the parliament in the second reading. The document contains a number of measures of social protection of this category of citizens. The purpose of the legislative initiative is to consolidate the rights and social guarantees of war veterans as a sign of gratitude for their services, sacrifice and devotion. The draft law is also aimed at supporting war veterans, members of their families and veterans' associations to encourage their active participation in public life and their involvement in educating the younger generation in the spirit of patriotism. The draft law defines the status of war veterans, categorizes them and, at the same time, stipulates the conditions for revoking the status of war veteran. The document also contains clear provisions on social, medical protection and benefits to be enjoyed by war veterans. In particular, war veterans will receive from January 1, 2025 a monthly state allowance equal to 10% of the average monthly wage in the economy, and disabled war veterans will receive an allowance equal to 14% of the projected average monthly wage in the economy. War veterans falling into two or more categories will additionally receive a supplement of 4%. The amount of the monthly state allowance will be updated with each projected increase in the average monthly wage in the economy. The draft law also provides for the establishment of state allowances for special merits and defines their recipients. At the same time, the draft law provides for state allowances for family members of war veterans who died in the line of duty, as well as family members of deceased war invalids. The authors of the legislative initiative proposed to allocate funds for vouchers for sanatorium and spa treatment of war veterans, for the provision of social housing, for placement in temporary accommodation centers for war veterans at risk, etc. War veterans will also be provided with death benefits equal to 50% of the average wage in the economy projected for the year of administration. War veterans will also receive medical care, reimbursed medicines and medical devices; will be provided with orthopedic and dental prostheses, hearing aids, heart implants, etc. These people will be entitled to additional services such as vocational training and retraining, as well as tax benefits in accordance with the current legislation. The document was developed by a group of MPs from the faction of the Action and Solidarity party with the participation of representatives of various veterans' associations, civil society, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The legislative initiative should enter into force at the beginning of 2025. //26.12.2024 - InfoMarket
