According to official statistics, in 2020, in the country as a whole were commissioned 5179 apartments with a total area of 337.1 thousand square meters, which is 27.7% less than in 2019, both in the number of apartments (a year earlier - 7161) and in area (466.5 thousand sq. m). Herewith, in 2020, were commissioned 1,727 residential buildings with a total area of 208.4 thousand square meters, which is 5.8% lower than in the previous year in terms of the number of leased housing (a year earlier - 1833 units) and 6% - in terms of area (a year earlier - 221.7 thousand square meters). According to the NBS, in urban areas of Moldova in 2020, were commissioned 5895 housing units (a year earlier - 7990) with a total area of 429.4 thousand square meters (a year earlier - 567.3 thousand sq. m.), which is 26.2% lower than in 2019 in terms of the number of housing and 24.3% in terms of area. In rural areas, in 2020 were commissioned 1,011 housing units, which is 0.7% more than a year earlier (1004 units), but its total area decreased by 3.9% from 120.9 thousand sq. m. in 2019 to 116.1 thousand sq. m. in 2020. Meanwhile, most of the housing was commissioned in 2020 in the municipality of Chisinau - 5529 units (-26.4%, compared to 2019) with a total area of 391.8 thousand square meters (-24.9%).
