In Chisinau 57 residential buildings will undergo thermal modernization and become energy efficient with the support of European development partners
The Ministry of Energy announced this, noting that the OptimSACET Chișinău program for modernizing the heat distribution system in multi-apartment residential buildings in Chisinau was the subject of a study visit by Karin Juhlin, the Swedish Secretary of State for International Development Cooperation, to Termoelectrica. The Ministry of Energy emphasized that Sweden is one of the main sponsors of the E5P fund, which is providing a €15 million grant as part of the €326 million OptimSACET Chișinău project, co-financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank. The grant will finance thermal modernization and energy efficiency measures in 57 residential buildings, with the goal of improving the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of heat supply for the benefit of the population. The visit included a visit to Thermal Power Plant No. 1, where Termoelectrica CEO Iurie Razlovan gave a detailed presentation on the company's operations, implemented projects, and ongoing modernizations, followed by a tour of the thermal power plants. The delegation also visited Pumping Station No. 8, which was completely modernized—from the technical equipment (pumps, electric motors, heating networks, frequency converters, switches, transformers, control and automation systems) to the landscaping—as part of the SACET efficiency improvement project, financed by a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). "The €15 million investment we are providing through the E5P Partnership reflects Sweden's continued commitment to Moldova's progress. We are pleased to be part of the modernization of the district heating system. This project will contribute to improving the quality of life for hundreds of thousands of residents of Chisinau," stated Karin Juhlin. In turn, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy Cristina Pereteatcu noted that the development of energy infrastructure is crucial for improving efficiency and consumer comfort. According to her, thanks to a grant provided by our partners, Termoelectrica is implementing a series of modernization and energy efficiency measures aimed at the capital's district heating infrastructure. This will optimize consumption and reduce environmental impact by reducing pollutant emissions. "In the coming years, we strive for sustainable development and the modernization of the heating infrastructure, thereby bringing Moldova's energy sector closer to European standards," said Cristina Peretiatcu. The modernization of the district heating system in Chisinau is the largest urban energy efficiency project in Moldova's history, directly impacting over 500,000 heat consumers.// 18.11.2025 — InfoMarket.
