46 schools of Moldova have been selected to improve their energy efficiency under the “Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in Moldova (STEEM)” project
The Ministry of Energy reported this, noting that, in particular, 12 schools from Chisinau municipality were selected to participate in the project, while the remaining 34 educational institutions are located in different districts of the country. According to the project, the main energy efficiency measures are: thermal insulation of buildings, replacement of windows and doors, reconstruction of lighting and heating systems, installation of heat pumps, solar thermal collectors and photovoltaic panels. Thus, the learning conditions of about 46 thousand students and teachers will be improved, while at the same time, it is estimated that the reconstruction and modernization works will reduce energy consumption in these buildings by about 50%. The “Sustainable Transition through Energy Efficiency in Moldova (STEEM)” project will be implemented in 2024-2029. Its total budget is $54.5 million, of which $50 million will be loaned by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), a member of the World Bank Group, and another $4.5 million in technical assistance and implementation support grants will be provided by the Moldova-Growth, Resilience and Opportunities for Well-Being Multi-Donor Trust Fund (M-GROW), managed by the World Bank Group. The founding partners of M-GROW are Ireland, Norway and the United Kingdom, which have contributed to the Multi-Donor Trust Fund. The project will be managed by the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation of Energy Projects (UCIPE) with technical support from the National Center for Sustainable Energy, Termoelectrica, the Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research, local authorities and beneficiary institutions. // 11.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
