Moldova in 1.5 years managed to improve its energy security and move away from 100% dependence on one gas supplier and it is now called a clear example of success throughout Europe - the Ministry of Energy.

State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, Constantin Borosan, said this while speaking at the 26th conference "New Global Energy Order" held in Poland from 14 to 17 May. He is taking part in the event along with a team from the state company Energocom. The conference also includes a section on "Transatlantic Partnership for the Security of Europe's Gas Markets." In his welcoming speech, Constantin Borosan talked about Moldova's experience in managing energy crises in the past 2 years and about the actions that had to be taken to ensure an uninterrupted gas and electricity supply to consumers in the context of Gazprom's unilateral decision to cut gas supplies to our country. The state secretary of the Energy Ministry said that the management of the difficult situation in the energy sector was possible due to the international support which Moldova received, for which it is very grateful. "In 1.5 years, we managed to improve our energy security and to change our status from a country with 100 per cent dependency on a single source of gas supply, and now we have the capacity and knowledge to deliver gas from any alternative source," Constantin Borosan said. According to him, now the case of our country to improve energy security is cited as a clear example of success throughout Europe. "We would like to thank Poland for participating in our success. In October 2021, PGNiG, a state-owned company from Poland, was the first to supply our country with alternative natural gas to restore pressure in the national transportation system, and since May 2022 Energocom enjoys the support of gas expert Maciej Wozniak, who hails from Poland," said Constantin Borosan. According to the Secretary of State, the energy crisis has accelerated many transformation processes in the energy sector, increasing the ambition and speed of implementation of projects in the field of energy infrastructure, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. This is happening in Moldova and throughout the European continent and is part of the "New Global Energy Order". During the panel discussion "The use of natural gas for energy purposes in the European Union from the geopolitical point of view", Constantin Borosan stressed the importance of regional cooperation between countries, the need to develop the infrastructure of interconnection and increase trust between commercial partners. A representative delegation of Energocom is also attending the conference in Poland to take advantage of this opportunity to expand cooperation and build relationships based on mutual trust. On the margins of the conference, bilateral meetings were held with colleagues from Poland and Lithuania, as well as with the president of the Polish energy regulator. During the meeting with Piotr Dziadzio, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Climate and Environment of Poland, the parties reviewed the current state of bilateral relations in the field of energy between our countries. Constantin Borosan expressed gratitude for Poland's assistance in the form of electric generators for Moldovan hospitals, and for the openness and confirmation of the Polish support for Moldova within international cooperation platforms. He expressed his interest in continuing the dialogue and taking advantage of opportunities for cooperation in the energy field. During the meeting with Lithuanian Deputy Energy Minister Inga Žilienė, the sides discussed cooperation between our countries in the energy field. Lithuania financed a renewable energy project in 15 social institutions in Moldova, where photovoltaic systems with a capacity of about 1,000 kW were installed. The sides agreed to continue the dialogue, expanding cooperation in the field of sustainable energy. In parallel with the meetings at government level, Energocom representatives held a series of B2B meetings with Polish energy companies to expand the potential for cooperation. // 16.05.2023 - InfoMarket.
