The EU and UNDP Moldova have developed and presented a Roadmap for the Development of “Green” Skills in key sectors of our country’s economy

The document, presented at the Technical University of Moldova, was developed with the support of the European Union as part of the “Enabling an Inclusive Green Transition in the Republic of Moldova” project implemented by UNDP Moldova. Based on this document, a national capacity-building program will be implemented to prepare personnel, institutions, and the education system for the demands of the “green” transition. The program is being developed in collaboration with stakeholders through interactive sessions and the application of systems thinking and interdisciplinary cooperation. All of this is being done in partnership with Climate KIC, one of Europe’s leading communities for climate innovation. Consequently, government agencies need experts who are ready to implement and ensure compliance with increasingly complex environmental legislation that meets EU standards. At the same time, educational institutions need to adapt their curricula and training programs to prepare current and future professionals in the field of “green” technologies. “The green transition is a matter of sustainability. It is about building a society and an economy that can develop and thrive for future generations. This process begins with investments in skills and education. The EU can only innovate and achieve the green transition if people are engaged and prepared,” said Jessika Rosvall, European Commissioner for the Environment, Water Sustainability, and a Competitive Circular Economy, who attended the dialogue, which brought together students, recent graduates, universities, and vocational education institutions. The event provided a platform for dialogue on the “green” skills of the future and the career opportunities opened up by the green transition. “The green transition requires not only new technologies but also new skills. At the Technical University of Moldova, we are constantly adapting our educational programs to equip students with the environmental skills needed in the labor market and the economy of the future. The creation of the Green Tech Hub Innovation Center is a concrete example of this commitment, providing a collaborative environment where education, research, entrepreneurship, and industry come together to develop practical solutions for a sustainable future,” said Viorel Bostan, rector of the Technical University of Moldova. The environmentally focused and sustainability-oriented universities and colleges represented at the event showcased their educational programs tailored to a new generation of students interested in “green” fields and sustainable development. One of the featured venues was the Green Tech Hub, located at the Technical University of Moldova (UTM). Developed on the TUM campus, the Green Tech Hub will bring together students, researchers, entrepreneurs, startups, and partners from the public and private sectors to transform innovative ideas into concrete solutions for a greener and more sustainable future. As part of the “Enabling an Inclusive Green Transition in the Republic Moldova” project, the EU will equip the Green Tech Hub with a laboratory designed to test construction materials and integrate waste as raw materials into production processes. At the same time, the EU and UNDP are supporting the development of local communities by organizing hackathons, pre-acceleration programs, and initiatives aimed at developing “green” skills. The Green Tech Hub also includes a state-of-the-art innovation and prototyping laboratory equipped with 3D printers, CO2-based laser equipment, CNC (computer numerical control) machines, equipment for processing plastics and textiles, as well as spaces designed for educational activities and collaborative projects. The Green Tech Hub was established through a partnership between the Technical University of Moldova and UNDP Moldova, with support from the European Union and the Innovate Moldova program, funded by Sweden and the United Kingdom. // 30.06.2026 — InfoMarket
