Robert Saum, Regional Country Director for Eastern Europe at the World Bank, visited an animal by-products processing plant in Moldova, built near Criuleni

He was accompanied by Ulrich Schmitt, World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, Olga Sainciuc, Executive Director of the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Agricultural Projects, as well as technical teams from the World Bank and the Project Implementation Unit. The animal by-products processing plant is a strategic investment for the national agricultural sector. The plant will ensure the processing of all categories of animal by-products (categories 1, 2, and 3) not intended for human consumption in accordance with European standards. The technological process will produce meat and bone meal as well as animal fat. Meal from categories 1 and 2 will be used as alternative fuel in the cement industry, while meal from category 3 will be used as raw material for pet food. This modern infrastructure will make a significant contribution to protecting public health and the environment by ensuring the efficient and controlled management of by-products from slaughterhouses, farms, and other livestock enterprises in Moldova. Earlier it was reported that a plant for processing animal by-products will be commissioned in Moldova in 2026. This investment was made as part of the Moldovan Agriculture Competitiveness (MAC-P) and Moldova - Agriculture Governance, Growth, and Resilience Investment (AGGRI) projects implemented by the Moldovan government with the support of the World Bank. Earlier it was reported that the cost of the project to build a plant for processing animal by-products in Criuleni amounted to €13.5 million. // 12.02.2026 — InfoMarket
