Moldova will be able to increase access to international wine markets and attract new investments for the development of the wine sector
In particular, the parliament-ratified protocol on amendments to the Agreement on the Establishment of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (IOVW) of April 3, 2001 on the relocation of its headquarters will contribute to this. The amendments to the said Agreement are aimed at adapting the legal and operational framework of the IOVW to the new realities of the world market and promoting international standards in viticulture and winemaking. At the same time, it was decided to move the organization's headquarters from Paris to Dijon. The government said that Moldova, as a member of the IOVW, participated in bilateral and multilateral consultations on the document, being represented by a delegation of representatives of the Agriculture Ministry and experts in the vine-growing and wine-making sector. As a result of the consultations, it was agreed to update certification, labeling and quality control procedures to respond to new market demands and support innovation in the wine sector. Another outcome was the strengthening of measures to protect geographical indications and controlled appellations of origin. According to the authorities, this is essential for our country, which has many such names and their protection is necessary for international recognition and the fight against fraud. The protocol also includes provisions that support member states in adapting to the effects of climate change on viticulture. Ratification of the protocol will bring a number of economic and commercial benefits to Moldova, including increased access to international markets, investment attraction and technological development of the wine sector. The IOVW is an intergovernmental organization that issues recommendations on technical and scientific aspects of viticulture and winemaking. The IOVW has 49 member states and 17 observers. Moldova was the first post-Soviet country to become a member of the IOVW in 1992. // 15.11.2024 - InfoMarket.
