12 settlements from Moldova from both banks of the Nistru/Dniester River will receive EU and UNDP support for local development initiatives

In particular, the following communities have been selected for local development support: Holercani, Cosnita, Cirnateni, Senatovca, Puhaceni and Hirbovat (on the right bank), and Rascov, Gisca, Teia, Pervomaisc, Butor and Tirnauca (on the left bank of the Dniester). The communities will be supported in involving the population in local development planning and monitoring. The assistance is provided by the European Union under the Confidence Building Measures program implemented by UNDP. Olesea Cazacu, UNDP Program Coordinator in Moldova, said UNDP has successfully developed and tested an innovative model of community participation in local development and has helped establish more than 100 community action groups and associations. “We aim to expand this experience to improve local infrastructure and services and strengthen local governance,” she said. The 12 selected communities will be accompanied by civil society organizations - the Alliance of Associations of Natives from Moldova and the Regional Development Agency from Tiraspol, which signed a relevant cooperation agreement on May 24, 2024. During 1 year, the 12 communities will be assisted in identifying, formulating, planning and implementing local initiatives. In this way, by involving men and women, community members and fellow countrymen in local development processes, financial and human potential will be utilized, which will contribute to improving the quality of life on both sides of the Nistru/Dniester River and building trust. In the second stage, 6 infrastructure projects will be selected, 3 projects on each bank, to be implemented with funds from the EU Confidence Building Measures program implemented by UNDP. By supporting these 12 settlements, the EU continues to promote better cooperation between communities on both banks of the Nistru/Dniester River through joint projects involving local partners, civil society organizations and other stakeholders. The Confidence Building Measures program, funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, contributes to building trust between the inhabitants of both banks of the Nistru River by involving them in joint development projects. // 07.11.2024 - InfoMarket
