Resident individuals in Moldova sent abroad $55.4 million in 2022, and foreign investors reinvested profits, increasing the volume of FDI in the country 1.5 times.
The Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization's analysis of socio-economic development in 2022 notes that uncertain prospects aggravated by the armed conflict in Ukraine forced many residents of Moldova to withdraw their investments abroad - the outflow amounted to $55.4 million. At the same time, foreign investors acted against expectations: they reinvested their profits, which led to an increase in foreign direct investment by 1.5 times compared to 2021 (and by 16.7% more than before the crisis level). As a result, net FDI inflows in Moldova in 2022 amounted to $536.7 million, which is 40.5% more than in 2021. Total liabilities in the form of FDI at the end of 2022 were $4 billion 926.4 million, up 2.6% compared to the situation at the end of 2021. Of this amount, 61.5% are equity and 38.5% are debt obligations. In the geographic distribution of FDI, the main share was provided by EU investors - 87.1%, and by CIS investors - 13.1% (while investment from the CIS decreased significantly - to $6.4 million). Investors from Cyprus, Holland, Romania, France, Bulgaria, Austria, United Kingdom, etc., were the main FDI investors in Moldova. The main economic activities that have attracted FDIs are the financial and insurance activities (34.4% of all FDIs in the form of equity capital), trade (24.3%) and the processing industry (20.6%). // 14.04.2023 - InfoMarket
