Romania intends to allocate 25 million euros to Moldova by the end of 2022 in the form of a grant for the implementation of projects in strategic areas of development.
This was stated by Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, speaking at the third ministerial conference of the Support Platform for Moldova in Paris. He noted that given the need to provide assistance to our country to overcome a number of existing crises, Romania has strengthened its support for Moldova. In particular, a neighboring country recently provided Moldova with a grant of 10 million euros in direct budgetary assistance, in line with the commitment made under the Moldova Support Platform. In addition, after Ukraine stopped exporting electricity due to Russian attacks on the main Ukrainian power plants, Romania quickly responded by facilitating the supply of electricity to Moldova from October 14 to cover the deficit, and currently it provides from 80% to 90% of the electricity needs of the Republic of Moldova . Bogdan Aurescu stressed that in addition to this, also to help the energy sector, Romania is preparing to supply Moldova with 130,000 cubic meters of firewood at a reduced price to help our country compensate for the shortage caused by the reduction in the volume of gas supplied by Russia. "We are at the stage of changing the regulatory framework in this area in order to be able to carry out this undertaking," said the Romanian Foreign Minister. According to him, in addition, Romania has accelerated the implementation of its grant of 100 million euros. “Within this framework, Romania intends by the end of this year to offer grants in the amount of 25 million euros for projects in the strategic areas of development of the Republic of Moldova, such as education, regional development and improvement of public services,” said Bogdan Aurescu. He stressed that in the face of unprecedented challenges, Moldova must be able to count on the support of its partners. “Today's conference is living proof that Moldova can rely on its friends! And I sincerely believe that, in turn, the international community will find a reliable partner in Moldova! We are here for a long journey, ready to cooperate with our friends in Chisinau to help them overcome any difficulties they face,” said the Romanian Foreign Minister. // 21.11.2022 — InfoMarket
