The French Development Agency will credit Moldova 60 million euros to modernize the energy and railroad sectors.

Among other things, this is stipulated in the respective loan agreement ratified by the Moldovan parliament on Thursday. The document itself was signed on October 28 in Chisinau by Minister of Finance Dumitru Budianschi and Cécile Couprie, regional director for Eurasia of the French Development Agency (AFD). The loan will be issued for 15 years, including a grace period of 5 years. It will be repaid twice a year, in 20 equal tranches. The commitment fee will be 0.5% of the undisbursed amount, calculated from the date of the agreement, and a flat fee of 0.5% of the total loan amount. The loan will be disbursed in one installment, with a deadline of October 13, 2023. The need for this loan arose from the consequences of the war in Ukraine, the energy crisis and inflation. According to the Ministry of Finance, the allocated funds are intended to mitigate the consequences of the energy crisis and increase the sustainability of the railway sector, as well as to support reforms in the railway and energy sectors. The loan will help our country promote renewable energy sources, improve the sustainability of the railway sector and mitigate the impact of the energy crisis on low-income families. The French Development Agency (AFD) is a French government organization that funds sustainable development projects in developing countries. To consolidate activities in Moldova, AFD opened an office in Chisinau in February 2022. In the summer of 2021, it received a mandate to assist Moldova in the fields of environment, energy and quality drinking water. // 10.11.2022 - InfoMarket.
