The Parliament ratified the agreement on a new WB grant in the amount of $3 million 105 thousand for the project "Competitive Agriculture in Moldova".

In particular, the deputies approved in the second reading the ratification of the grant agreement between Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (part of the World Bank Group), which was signed on December 10, 2021 in Chisinau. According to the document, the money will be provided to Moldova from the Global Environment Facility and used to mitigate the effects of land degradation and increase agricultural productivity. It is worth noting that the grant agreement represents the fourth additional funding for the Competitive Agriculture in Moldova (MAC-P) project and includes 3 components: strengthening institutional capacity in the field of sustainable land management; providing financial assistance for the implementation of sustainable land management; support in the rehabilitation of protective anti-erosion protective strips in the north of Moldova. The new grant will expand activities aimed at the application of sustainable land management practices, knowledge transfer, protection, conservation and prevention of soil degradation. Under the grant agreement, farmers in Moldova will be able to benefit from information and co-financing programs to introduce sustainable agricultural practices and environmentally sound technologies in order to increase agricultural productivity and manage natural resources appropriately. In particular, farms that are focused on the use of conservative tillage technologies will be able to receive grants. At the same time, until 2024, activities will be implemented in the northern region of the country to restore anti-erosion forest belts with the provision of employment opportunities and wages for the rural population. The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment will also receive institutional support under the project. The grant agreement is to be implemented by the end of 2024. //23.06.2022 — InfoMarket.
