Maib and Mastercard have signed a strategic agreement to deploy Mastercard Gateway in Moldova

Maib, a major bank in the Republic of Moldova, and Mastercard, a global technology company, have signed a strategic agreement to deploy Mastercard Gateway for maib’s merchants in Moldova.
The agreement provides for the implementation of Mastercard Gateway – a global payment platform that offers merchants a single connection to accept payments worldwide, enabling expansion into new markets, while providing consumers with a convenient and trusted payment experience.

The partnership was announced at the Mastercard EDGE 2025 Forum, an international event that brings together leaders from the financial, fintech, PayTech, and payment technology innovation sectors to explore how innovation is redefining the future of global digital commerce.
The signing of the agreement marks an important step in maib’s strategy for continuous digitalization and innovation, and supports maib’s digitalization strategy by providing additional acceptance capabilities to its merchant portfolio.

Aliona Stratan, First Deputy Chair of maib:
“This new agreement with Mastercard marks a new chapter in maib’s plan to deliver modern, secure payment solutions for our merchants and their customers. The implementation of Mastercard Gateway will allow us to offer merchants and customers modern, secure solutions aligned with global trends. It is a natural step in our mission to facilitate fast, efficient, and safe payments.
I am deeply grateful to the Mastercard team for their trust and for the privilege of bringing this valuable project to life. We are eager to begin its implementation together with the maib team, creating added value for our clients and support their e‑commerce growth.”

Irina Untila, Country Manager for Mastercard in Moldova:
“This is an important milestone in our shared journey with maib in fostering their digital agenda. Mastercard Gateway brings global expertise and cutting-edge payment technologies that will empower local businesses to grow and offer their customers secure, seamless, and convenient payment experiences — both online and offline.
At Mastercard, we are committed to driving innovation and supporting our partners in unlocking new opportunities for digital commerce. We’re excited to deepen our collaboration with maib and support their clients’ e‑commerce growth.”

Why Mastercard Gateway?

Advanced functionalities for merchants. Through Mastercard Gateway, local merchants will gain access to modern tools such as Secure Card on File (sCOF) and xWallets, which enable secure payment data management and simplify recurring payments or e-wallet transactions — features increasingly in demand both locally and internationally.

Enhanced market competitiveness. The adoption of this platform provides Moldovan merchants with access to advanced technologies in payments, strengthening their competitive position and facilitating cross-border trade expansion.

Customer experience and trust. Mastercard Gateway delivers a seamless, secure, and integrated payment experience, enhancing customer confidence and satisfaction, while supporting maib’s digital transformation journey.
By implementing Mastercard Gateway, maib reaffirms its role as a forward-looking institution, capable of meeting the needs of modern commerce and building strong partnerships with global leaders in payment technologies.
You drive. maib
