DMITRI TORNER AGREED WITH THE DEFENSE MINISTER OF AUSTRIA REGARDING THE SUPPORT OF WINTER SPORTS IN MOLDOVA

Dmitri Torner, the President of the Winter Sports Association of the Republic of Moldova, had a meeting with Klaudia Tanner, the Minister of Defense of Austria. The meeting took place in Vienna on April 10. Dmitri Torner announced this on his Facebook page.

The main topic on the day’s agenda was the perspective of cooperation in the field of sports. The parties discussed the opportunity of a collaboration between the Winter Sports Association of the Republic of Moldova and the Austrian Army Sports Association (ÖHSV), which operates under the Ministry of Defense of Austria.

The Austrian side has expressed its interest in establishing a dialogue. It was noted that Austria has considerable experience in the field of sports, which it intends to share with Moldova.

During the meeting, Dmitri Torner mentioned that Austria has managed to build a successful model of the formation of sports reserves based on the ÖHSV clubs, which also contribute to the promotion of performance sports.

“We are interested in the successful experience of the Sports Association of the Austrian Army and we would like to implement this particular model in the development of the Winter Sports Association of the Republic of Moldova, including in the context of the formation of sports reserves, patriotic education and the employment of athletes”, said Dmitri Torner.

In the near future, the representatives of the Winter Sports Association of the Republic of Moldova will visit the exclusive training camp for biathletes in Hochfilzen, where the athletes of the Sports Association of the Austrian Army are trained, in order to learn about the conditions of the process of trainings.

They also discussed the prospect of drawing up an agreement between the associations for further cooperation and exchange of experience.

At the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of continuing the interaction within the processes of integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European community.

“We are moving towards the European family and we want to develop cooperation in all areas – both in sports and in security. We hope that we will be able to take over Austria’s experience to implement sports training in Moldova”, concluded Torner.
