The Romanian passport provides many benefits to its holder, with the most significant being the freedom to travel without visas or with visas on arrival in 179 countries worldwide. Thus, the Romanian passport ranks 13th in the list of the world's most powerful passports, according to the Henley & Partners Index, updated in January 2024.

The Henley Passport Index relies on data exclusively provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and analyzes passports from 199 countries. France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain hold the top position in the ranking of the world's most powerful passports, according to the Henley Passport ranking. Citizens of these countries have access to 194 countries without visas, followed by Finland, South Korea, and Sweden, whose passport holders can travel freely to 193 states.

Austria, Denmark, Ireland, and the Netherlands rank third in terms of the most powerful passports. With a passport issued by these countries, one can travel without visas to 192 countries.

On the other hand, the weakest passports in the world are issued by Iraq (31), Syria (29), and Afghanistan (28).

Romania ranks 13th in this passport ranking, advancing in the ranking annually. Holders of a Romanian passport can travel without a visa to 179 countries.

At the same time, the Moldovan passport is only in the 49th position, and its holders can travel freely to 122 countries. In this regard, the Moldovan passport surpasses that of Georgia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where there is free movement in 121 countries.
