Giurgiulesti International Free Port Sets New Record of Cargo Transhipments in 2021

In 2021 cargo transhipments via Giurgiulesti International Free Port (GIFP) reached a new record of
1.4 million tons exceeding the previous 2019 high by 30%. The grand demand for transhipment
services followed a challenging year 2020 which was determined by restrictions of grain exports due
to poor harvest in the agricultural season 2020/21 and the coronavirus pandemic. The transhipment
volume in 2021 increased by 50% comparing with 2020.

The volume of liquid bulk including petroleum products and vegetable oil transhipped via the port
increased by 61% being boosted by doubling the volume of operated petroleum products compared
to 2020. Dry bulk transhipments comprising grain, seeds, aggregates, coal, petcoke and bauxite
increased by 49% supported largely by higher demand for gravel imports for road construction works
while grain exports recovered back to normal level in the second half of 2021. The recorded increase
of general cargo transhipments by 70% is largely due to the first full year service for scrap exports.

Mathias von Tucher, General Director of Danube Logistics SRL, stated: “The increase of transhipment
activities via GIFP affirms the important role of the port as trade gateway for Moldovan exporters and
importers. Our investment program aims on doubling the transhipment capacity for dry cargo by
constructing another berth allowing for receiving maritime vessels up to 7 m draft. The beginning of
the works is planned in 2022. We are also pleased to notice the progress of the construction projects
of our residents establishing processing and storage facilities for agricultural goods. These investments
will contribute to the sustainable development of the transhipment volumes of the port and create
more jobs.”

Danube Logistics SRL is the general investor and operator of Giurgiulesti International Free Port, the
main sea-river port of the Republic of Moldova. Since 2005 Danube Logistics has developed the port
into one of the most successful ports on the river Danube facilitating trade of Moldovan companies
with international markets. Danube Logistics SRL is wholly owned by the Dutch company Danube
Logistics Holding BV. The sole ultimate owner of the Danube Logistics group of companies is the
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).
