20 years anniversary of Südzucker-Moldova. Investments that create future

On May 25, 2021, the Moldovan-German company Südzucker-Moldova celebrated its 20th anniversary.

The Moldovan-German joint venture Südzucker Moldova is the leader of sugar production sector in Moldova. Modernization of sugar production, but also investments in production technology, made jointly with agricultural partners, have contributed to the rebirth of the sugar industry and have made Moldovan sugar a competitive product on the European and regional markets. This has become possible due to the improvement of the legal framework governing the Moldovan sugar industry and the harmonization with the activity regime of the European market.

The main shareholder of the company is the European concern Südzucker AG, the largest sugar producer in Europe. This concern owns sugar factories in Germany, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Austria, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as refineries, factories that produce bioethanol, fruit concentrates, semi-finished products and pizza.

During its activity in the Republic of Moldova, Südzucker Moldova invested about 60 million euros in the modernization of sugar production, in the project "Green Energy", as well as in the technical and technological development of sugar beet production. As a result, electricity consumption decreased almost twice. The quality of sugar improved considerably. In 2008, Südzucker Moldova has been certified under the ISO 9001:2008 and НАССР international standards. The company exports sugar to several EU and CIS countries. The annual turnover of Südzucker Moldova - up to 1 billion lei.

Südzucker Moldova pays special attention to the development of raw materials. German experts of the company introduced the European culture of sugar beet growing in the Republic of Moldova. From the beginning of its activity in the our country, the company offers complete consultation and financial assistance to farmers. In 2008, Südzucker Moldova registered its subsidiary agricultural enterprise with a comprehensive profile „Agro-SZM”, which processes over 12.5 thousand hectares. During company's activity in Moldova, the average yield of sugar beet increased from 21 t / h to 40-50 t / h, based on climatic conditions during the year, and on irrigated fields reaches the European level of 70- 80 tons / ha. Every year, the company grants technical loans to agricultural partners for the production of this crop, in a total amount of about 100 million lei.

In 2015-2017, Südzucker Moldova implemented the largest „Green Energy” project in Moldova, in which invested over 14 million euros. In this regard, a facility, which produces 8.5 million m3 of biogas per year from sugar beet pulp, was installed in Drochia factory. The facility is the largest supplier of "Green Energy" and is unique in the country.

Alexander Koss, Speaker of the Board of Directors of Südzucker Moldova, points out: “The mission of Südzucker Moldova is to create a modern and competitive production, as well as to develop sustainable partnerships - a kind of cluster of agricultural partners, distributors and suppliers, as well as creation of a favorable social environment in the regions in which it operates.”

The most important factor contributing to the success of Südzucker-Moldova is the team of people who share the same ideas and form the backbone of the company. "The success of the Moldovan project Südzucker AG does not only consist in financial investments", states the management of the European concern. - It was essential to form a team of professionals, which allowed the implementation of the entire chain of complex technological and managerial solutions. Moreover, it contributed to the rebirth of the sugar beet company. We are glad that our colleagues from the Republic of Moldova have become persevering, eager to get involved and results-oriented. Today, specialists from all countries where the concern operates, including those from the Republic of Moldova, exchange experience and speak the same language - the language of innovation, which allows us to continuously grow together and respond to the challenges of time.”
