The e-Governance Agency has warned of a new online scam involving a malicious version of the EVO app
The agency warns that cybercriminals are distributing a fake download page for the government’s EVO app, which looks similar to the Google Play Store. Users are prompted to download a malicious file capable of stealing passwords, personal information, OTP codes, and access to bank accounts. The agency emphasized that the official EVO app can only be downloaded from the official App Store and Google Play, and its developer is always listed as the Moldovan e-Governance Agency. Users are advised not to install apps from links received via SMS, email, messaging apps, or social media, even if the pages appear to be official. If the app has already been installed from a suspicious source, users should immediately uninstall it, refrain from entering any personal or banking information, report the incident to the police via the cybercrime.mai.gov.md platform, and immediately contact their bank if the scammers have gained access to their banking information. // 09.07.2026 – InfoMarket
