Moldova sent to Brussels on April 19 the first report on progress in implementing the 9 recommendations of the European Commission for EU accession.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu at a joint press conference with his Dutch counterpart Wopke Hoekstra. The head of Moldovan diplomacy said that a large part of the EC recommendations have already been implemented, and a number of others relate to processes that never end, including the continuous improvement of the situation in the justice sector. "Today is a very important day for us, our country presents and sends to Brussels for the first time our first report, the first contribution to the EU enlargement report, a report which will be elaborated and written by the European Union by October. Today we are sending to Brussels this nearly 1,000-page report, which explains in great detail what the progress is, what the degree of implementation of the European Commission recommendations and the progress of our accession process to the European Union is. The processes in justice are not over this year, but the progress made there is enough for the EU to approve the next stage of the accession process," the MFAEI head said. He believes that the biggest "danger" to Moldova's EU accession process is the obstruction by some people of reforming the sector. "The goal of this year is to demonstrate substantial and systematic visible progress in justice reform and de-oligarization. These results are beginning to appear. Noteworthy here is the condemnation of Ilan Shor, the return of Chisinau airport under state control. We have a number of legislative packages that will clarify certain areas that will facilitate the work of justice, many laws have been passed. Thanks to these measures, Moldova has already shown progress, and obviously we still have a lot of work to do, especially in the justice sector. The greatest expectation and the greatest danger for our European course comes from the justice sector; without a radical, drastic and quick improvement of the situation in the fight against corruption, Moldova's European course will be hampered. All those who are trying to hinder the justice reform are hindering peace and our accession to the EU," Nicu Popescu said. For his part, Wopke Hoekstra noted that the Netherlands is ready to assist our country in the reform of the justice system. "It is very important to have an independent judicial system so that there is no room for corruption, and this is important for all countries in the European Union. We are ready to help you in the economic field as well. We are convinced that we will contribute a lot to improving the business climate and attracting investments to Moldova," the Dutch foreign minister said. During the conference the opening of the embassy of the Netherlands in Chisinau was announced. According to the diplomats, this will spur Moldovan-Dutch cooperation in all spheres, including political, economic and financial. // 19.04.2023 - InfoMarket.
