Moldova and Romania will start joint control at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point starting April 15.

Moldova and Romania will start joint control at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point starting April 15.

The Customs Service and the Border Police of Moldova announced this, noting that officially, starting April 15, at 08:00, four customs and border guard authorities from Moldova and Romania will jointly conduct coordinated controls at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point, at the entrance to Romania. This implies a "single stop" on the Romanian side for all state border crossing control procedures. The establishment of coordinated traffic control will speed up and facilitate the crossing of the common border, which will reduce the waiting time at the border crossing for travelers, including for the transportation of goods. As noted, on April 13, in the presence of the heads of customs and border authorities of Moldova and Romania, the Regulation on the organization and functioning of the Albita border crossing point was signed. This document contains principles and rules of cooperation for the coordinated control of persons, vehicles and goods at the entrance to the territory of Romania. According to the technological norms, control at the border crossing is carried out separately by the control personnel of the country of exit (Moldova), then sequentially by the personnel of the country of entry (Romania). The difference from the previous method of control is that there will be no control at the Leuseni border crossing point on the way out of the Republic of Moldova, and the stop for control will be at the Albita border crossing point on the way into Romania. Also yesterday the leadership of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova together with the heads of the Customs Administration of Romania tested the conditions of implementation of the mechanism of cross-border cooperation, which is valid from April 7, 2023, to efficiently manage the flow of cargo and passengers through the Moldovan-Romanian border-crossing points. The heads of customs authorities from Moldova and Romania confirmed the synchronization of activities by implementing operational information exchange, including with territorial subdivisions of other authorities with border control competencies, allocating separate routes for redirecting and accelerating the passenger flow both in entry and exit directions, and, where the situation requires, supplementing the number of customs officers in customs offices/ posts at the border. // 14.04.2023 – InfoMarket
