The U.S. to consider expanding preferential treatment for Moldovan agricultural exports.
At the same time, Moldova will take measures to facilitate imports of American beef and large tractors. This was said in a joint statement issued following the 6th meeting of the US-Moldova Joint Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation, held earlier in Chisinau. The U.S. Embassy in Chisinau reported that in the document, the parties stressed the strength of the bilateral relations between Moldova and the U.S. and the commitment of the both countries to increase the bilateral trade and improve the investment climate in Moldova. The sides reiterated their commitment to settle the existing trade issues. In particular, to this end, the sides agreed to work together to level the playing field for imports of large tractors from the U.S. and to start discussions on a system audit to facilitate access to the Moldovan market for U.S. beef. Both sides stressed the importance of using the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) to export Moldovan products to the U.S. market. As noted, the Commission emphasized a joint commitment to the principles that support a successful market economy - transparency, predictability and the rule of law. Both sides addressed the importance of transparent and predictable regulatory practices and pledged to continue recognizing international standards and non-discriminatory policies to promote bilateral trade and expand trade. The meeting also discussed efforts to improve the business environment in Moldova, and delegates discussed steps being taken to combat corruption and money laundering, strengthen institutions and create a level playing field for workers. Priority reforms and plans to create a favorable business environment in Moldova, particularly by simplifying procedures and regulations to increase Moldova's attractiveness as a destination for foreign investment, were also addressed. The U.S. welcomed Moldova's commitment to strengthen the rule of law and fight corruption and recognized the importance of transparency and predictability. They also discussed the benefits of strong protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, which are important elements in boosting Moldova's digital economy and information technology sector growth, including by prioritizing cybersecurity and critical information technology infrastructure. // 11.04.2023 - InfoMarket.
